L’Oreal Melbourne Fashion Festival 2011
Parade hair direction by Brad Ngata
L’Oreal Paris Runway – Alex Perry
The look: Alex Perry knows how to put on a show – glitz and glamour! His vibrant feminine gowns were teamed perfectly with Brad’s immaculate ‘red carpet ready’ ponytails which he describes as “clean and polished to create a seamless, blunt silhouette”.
How to achieve the look: Apply L’Oreal Professionel Techni Art Volume Lift Mousse to the roots of towel dried hair. Blow-dry from the roots, brushing straight back. Comb through equal parts of L’Oreal Professionel Techni Art Fix Max Gel and Techni Art Liss Control+ to the lengths of the hair for texture styling flexibility. Tightly pull the hair back into a central location; directly between the crown of the head and the nape of the neck; use your eyebrows as a guide. Secure with a firm elastic. Complete the look with a spritz of Techni Art Crystal Gloss and a light coating of Infinium Lumiere hairspray for a luxurious finish.
L’Oreal Paris / InStyle Runway
Presented by InStyle and featuring designers Christine, Fernando Frisoni, Ginger & Smart, Lucette, Manning Cartell, Megan Park, Nicola Finetti and Thurley.
The look: Brad’s styling for this superb InStyle parade embodies casual elegance/ “The motivation was to craete a waerable look that was clean, natural and feminine – essentially a style that could be translated at home”, said Brad. This look emphasised the notion that a woman is able to jump out of the shower and through her hair back into a chic bun with minimal effort and maximum impact. Truly, French chic!
How to achieve the look: Apply L’Oreal Professionel Technic Art Volume Lift to blow-dried hair in vertical stripes (approximately 2cm apart) to create a rough finish. Use a water spray to soften the hair, creating a slight ‘wet look’ and encourage texture. Use fingers to pull the hair straight back from the crown and pin sides of the hair at the nape of the neck, creating a condensed messy bun. Then secure with an elastic. Apply a second layer of Techni Art Volume Lift to the hair, once again in vertical rows, followed by a light application of Techni Art Fix Design to set the look. Finish off with a spritz of Techni Art Crystal Gloss for a polished, glamourous result.
L’Oreal Paris / Frankie Magazine Runway
Presented by Frankie Magazine and featuring designers Alice McCall, Alpha60, Dhini, Gorman, Karen Walker, Kate Sylvester, Limedrop, Nevenka.
The look: Stylists often look to the street for inspiration, and Brad chose a relaxed style for this runway show. “It is a return to the ‘It-Girl’ – really, sexy, grungy and cool”. To create this look, the key lies in the multifacteed textures and the ability NOT to overwork the hair.
How to achieve the look: Apply L’Oreal Play Ball Beach Fizz to the roots of towel-dried hair. Work in the product by blow-drying the hair forward with a round brush, section by section until a smooth, full-bodies look is created. Create a middle part by using a fine-toothed comb, then blow-dry the hair forwards, away from the crown, section by section. (TIP: the key to this style is getting the front part right – blow-drying forwards is crucial). Once the hair cools down, mess it up with your fingers to create the grungy, textured look. Finish off with a spritz of Techni Art Crystal Gloss for a healthy, voluminous result.
L’Oreal Paris / Vogue Runway
Presented by Vogue and featuring designers Arnsdorf, Bassike, Dress Up, Ellery, From Britten, Laurence Pasquier, Lui Hon and Song for the Mute.
The look: Brad and the team created a multi-textured ponytail, hinting to “90’s minimalism”. The style was quite natural and unrefined but looked super chic on the runway. Brad says: “the aim was to create a style which was effortless and dimensional, a ponytail from the runway that can be easily translated at home”.
How to achieve the look: To create this style, blow-dry hair until it is dry to the touch, however not too dry so that a raw-natural texture develops. Apply L’Oreal Professionel Techni Art Full Volume Extra to the lengths of the hair in vertical rows, approximately 2cm apart. This will produce a multi-textured, natural ‘scraped-back’ look. Use your eyebrows as a guide to style the ponytail just below the crown. Finish with Infinium Lumiere hairspray for shine and hold.
