Brad always loves working with rising young talent so he was in his element as official L’Oreal Professional Hair Director for Perth Fashion Festival’s ‘Student Runway’, featuring around 60 graduate designers from Perth’s major fashion institutions – Polytechnic West, WAAPA, Central Institute, Edith Cowen University, Curtin University and Challenger Institute. Each graduate presented their favourite look, letting their imaginations run riot with exciting and innovative design concepts and unusual fabrications. “The Student Runway is always one of my favourite shows to direct because I love the creative energy of the students”, said Brad. “With such a variation in design aesthetics, we came up with a few key hair looks that worked for different groups of students, though for the most part the hair was kept simple and polished so as not to detract from the elaborate design details. And in some cases, the students incorporated their own elaborate headwear pieces.” For the female models one look was a ‘Runway Pony’ secured just below the crown and bound with plastic tubing. The second look were cute ‘Swedish Piggies’ with a low side part. For the boy’s in the show, Brad and the team created a look they named ‘Desert Storm’ whereby white body paint was ballayaged and dried into the hair, giving a muted, desert sandy effect.
