One step into Brad Ngata Hair Direction and you know you're not in any ordinary salon. The shingle out the front in fluoro pink exclaims: "You're the star, sweetheart!" and the salon experience certainly lives up to that promise.
This service philosophy is evident in the salon design. Unlike other salons, there's no battery-hen formula here. Client stations are limited so as to afford privacy and a feeling of intimacy. Throughout the two adjoining terrace houses full length Philippe Stark mirrors feature, lifted above the floor slightly by white 'stages'. Sitting in front of such beautiful mirrors, one can't help but feel a sense of their own 'star quality', a sense of extravagance by the amount of space devoted to them alone. Space that could have been devoted to maximising the number of operator's stations has rather been utilised for chill-out lounges' and social areas where clients are encouraged to relax with their friends.
Punctuating the space is the signature pattern of Marimekko and a host of whimsical and quirky touches that bring playfulness and soul to the place: fireplaces become gardens, artificial topiary hedges peak out from behind lounges, an indoor water fountain brims with fresh gerberas, and clients are served refreshments from tables held up by colourful gnomes.
Iconic images representing every philosophy add comfort, humanity and a spiritual dimension to the space. Surprisingly, with so much to stimulate a client, they often comment that they find it peaceful and refreshingly down to earth.
